Green Chilaquiles

Versatile and economical, this meal can be served with red, green, or mole sauce. Try adding shredded chicken and serve it alongside eggs and refried beans for a balanced meal to start your day off right.

Pork Tamales

Corn, chiles, and pork come together to create deliciously savory satchels of flavor. Invite friends or family over to help you make these delectable delights and then enjoy them in good company!

Cinnamon Churros

These warm, crispy confections are made with a simple wheat dough, then fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. They’re great any time of year, but they’re especially popular during wintertime, paired with a cup of hot chocolate.

My Opinion:

I am the first to admit that I have shied away from Mexican cuisine. Not because I don't like the food but rather because one of the main ingredients doesn't like me. I am very allergic to peppers. The hubby loves them but I have trouble breathing around hotter peppers and we are not going to discuss what happens if I manage to eat one by mistake. It is not pretty. If I cook quickly I can make dishes for him that include green peppers but I can't work with the hotter peppers. So perhaps I should note this cookbook was more for him than for me.

That noted I did give it a thorough look through and so did he. It's very well laid out with recipes for classic Mexican meals for breakfast, snacks, soups, stews, dinners, desserts and more.  This is a cookbook for beginners to the cuisine so that is great; if you are looking to get a start in real Mexican cooking this would be an excellent place to begin. The recipes are well written with no complicated ingredients. Once you learn these basics you can expand your cooking into more advanced Mexican cuisine.

I have several recipes bookmarked to make for the husband when I can get to the store to pick up some condiments to add to my pantry. And some peppers - that he will clean and chop. It's a small price he pays to enjoy a vegetable that is trying to kill me. He is very excited that I will be making these dishes for him as he does love Mexican food.

If you are looking for a beginning Mexican cookbook or you have a new cook in the family this would be a great cookbook for them. Think bridal shower gift; combine it with some other cookbooks and it would be a wonderful start to a cookbook library.
