I was thrilled to continue with the Lancaster Secrets stories from Suzanne Woods Fisher with the second book, The Waiting. I received a copy at no charge for my honest review.
About The Waiting:
Book 2 in The Lancaster Secrets collection and hot on the heals of the best-selling The Choice, The Waiting, a stand alone story, is a compelling page turner. Jorie King has been waiting for Benjamin Zook to return home to Lancaster County so they can marry. When news arrives that Ben has been killed, Jorie finds comfort in the friendship of his brother Caleb. That friendship ripens into love, and it seems that they are meant to be together. But when the unexpected happens, their worlds are turned upside down once more. Will Jorie trust God to lead her into the arms of a new man? A multifaceted story about complex people living the simple life. Readers will find themselves transported into the world of the Amish and deeply invested in these wonderful characters.

My Opinion:
This is the second book in this series. You can read my review of the first book in the series, The Choice.
I loved returning to Lancaster to visit with the Amish again. having grown up in Philadelphia it was a bit like going home. My parents would take us out to Lancaster on a regular basis for day trips.
Jorie has been waiting for her love, Benjamin to come home from the war in Vietnam. They had been courting before he left and she was not going to marry any one else. Then came the devastating news that Benjamin had been killed in the war.
Benjamin’s brother Caleb, the patriarch of the family is dealing with many pressures at home; a wife with cancer, two young children, the stresses of being a minister in the community. Then his wife dies from cancer leaving him bereft. His brother is dead, his wife is dead and yet he must continue on for the sake of his children.
As Jorie and Caleb get closer the shocking news that Benjamin is still alive reaches them. How will this effect their blossoming relationship?
I enjoyed this chapter in the Lancaster Secrets series as much as I did the first. In fact this one was a touch better as the “English” or non-Amish characters were not so harshly drawn. The book sped along as the romance grew between Jorie and Caleb. They suffered doubts and setbacks but true love and their faith guided them to the proper course.
I know I will look forward to the next book in the series.
