About the Author:
Renee Hand writes because it is a passion in her heart. She is a homeschool parent and likes to create books that educate and inspire the children of today. She was born in Michigan and still lives there with her husband and two children. She has a degree in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry. Renee is the author of the amazing mystery series known as the Crypto-Capers Series that encourages children to read by incorporating several topics of interest. The reader participates into the story by solving cryptograms and puzzles to solve the case. She is also the author of the Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill Series, which focuses on animal detectives. My Opinion:
I became acquainted with Mssrs. Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill when I reviewed the first book in this series, The Great Pie Catastrophe. That book was delightful and this second book is just as much fun. Maybe even more so! Mineral Mischief is all about rocks and I love rocks. From the gemstones I use to create my jewelry to the miscellaneous rocks I have picked up on our travels these pieces of the earth fascinate me.
Our intrepid heroes are tasked with finding out who stole Maple Moo’s very rare and very pricey mineral. She had visitors and when they left the mineral was gone! She could not believe that one of her friends would steal the favorite of her collection but it surely did not grow legs and walk out on its own! Our detectives go off to interview Maple’s visitors who are also rock collectors; each one collecting a different type of rock. This allows the young reader to learn about each type – gemstone, igneous, quartz and sedimentary. The lessons are taught in an easy and fun way as the detectives themselves learn both about the rocks and their suspects.
They use their brain power and various instruments from Biscuit Bill’s magic pocket the boys ultimately work their way through the suspect pool and ….. well you will have to read the book to see if they solve the crime. heh
This is another great entry into the Joe-Joe Nut and Biscuit Bill series. The writing moves along quickly and educates without preaching. There are experiments in the back of the book that enhance the reading experience and further teach the child about rocks and their properties.
