Book Review: The Map by David Murrow

About the Book:

A map, hidden in the gospel of Matthew, is the key to awakening the sleeping giant in the church—men.
Sounds like fiction, but it’s true. The apostle Matthew embedded a map into his gospel. History’s greatest men, including Christ himself, followed this map.
The Map begins as a fictional tale of murder, deception, and greed as three men fight to uncover the most important discovery since the Dead Sea Scrolls. Then, using the tale as a parable, Murrow shows men what the map looks like, where it is found in the Bible, and how to walk its three ancient pathways today:
* Submission
* Strength
* Sacrifice
David Murrow stumbled across the map by accident in 2006. After three years of research and writing, he is ready to reveal it to the world.
About the Author:
David Murrow has, for more than twenty years, produced and written television documentaries, commercials, and specials. He’s won numerous awards for his production, writing, and creative skills. He’s produced material for the Discovery Channel, NBC, ABC, Food Network, Travel Channel, Dr. Phil, The Miss America Pageant, and many others. He has owned Murrow Media, Inc., since 1987 and has a degree in Anthropology from Baylor University. He has served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and he and his wife have three children.
My Opinion:
Ugh! The synopsis of the book led me to believe this would be an adventure story regarding lost secrets and paths to understanding. What I got was a book in two parts; a somewhat amateurish attempt at a thriller/adventure tale in the first part and a convoluted explanation of how men can read the gospel of Matthew, find a secret code, and get their tails back to church.
It was perhaps not the best book for a female to choose but the information provided to me by Thomas Nelson did not make it seem so male oriented. Perhaps men who have been alienated from the church would find it useful but I just found it boring and poorly written.
