Books for Cat Lovers
Each of these four books is unique and so let’s look at them one by one. I’ll start with Texts from Mittens by Angie Bailey.
- The Internet’s favorite text-happy cat is back at it—with a little help from his friends.
Follow along with Mittens as he enjoys hilarious, snark-filled text volleys with his cast of quirky friends and family: Earl (the “filthy hound”), Stumpy (the best friend), Drunky Patty (the usually tipsy next-door neighbor), Grandma (giver of treats), and Fiona (Mitty’s girlfriend). Based on Angie Bailey’s virally popular blog, Texts from Mittens: The Friends and Family Edition is feline humor at its finest. - About the Author: Angie Bailey wants to live in a world where cats drive buses and people are always kind to one another. An award-winning author and humorist, she’s the creator of the Texts from Mittens website, books, and calendars, as well as whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds. She’s also a regular contributor to the Catster print magazine. Angie particularly enjoys writing about cats doing people things.
In addition to humor writing, Angie is the creator and host of the Paws Rewind: Gen X + Cats podcast, which features sometimes ridiculous discussions about 70s/80s pop culture, with a side of cats.
She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two cats who think it’s always mealtime.
Mittens has been texting for a while and has also been making me laugh for as long. You can also find Texts From Mittens calendars.
Then we have Mr. Waffles Loves Design by Lisa S. Roberts. Not just any cat, Mr. Waffles is a sleek, stunning black cat with an eye for sleek, stunning design. He even has his own instagram page @mrwaffleslovesdesign
- When noted design collector and published author Lisa S. Roberts discovered her new shelter cat climbing, jumping, rubbing and sleeping on her contemporary furniture and products, rather than freaking out, she began snapping photos. This became the inspiration for this whimsical and lavishly illustrated book. Mr. Waffles, a sleek black Burmese cat, offsets the bright colorful designs by world-famous architects and designers. Each spread includes original photography of cat and design, a brief informative description, and a humorous observation or comment by critic Mr. Waffles. This feline doesn t just see a chair; he sees a potential scratching post, lap or jungle gym. His curiosity amuses throughout as he tips over trashcans, sniffs toilet brushes, poses in chairs, plays chess, and sits on top of a circular bookshelf. MR WAFFLES LOVES DESIGN traces the inspiration behind many iconic designs such as the Bouroullec brothers Vegetal chair inspired by tree branches and Patricia Urquiola s Antibodi chair that looks like a bed of flowers. Other designers look to the universe for inspiration with pieces like Michele de Lucchi s First Chair that resembles the solar system or Moon Chair by Tokujin Yoshioka that has the iridescent quality of the moon. Some designers incorporate a playful element. Naoto Fukasawa s Plus Minus Zero humidifier resembles a glazed doughnut and Byron Glaser and Sandra Higashi created Zolo, a child/adult toy that looks like Mr. Potato Head on steroids. Design just got a whole lot more entertaining with Mr. Waffles leading the way.
- About the Author: Lisa S. Roberts began her career as an architect. After six years, she left the field to pursue her professional interests in product and graphic design. Over a 30-year career, she has worked for more than 50 manufacturers and retailers in the home and gift areas. Her designs have been sold in major department stores, specialty stores, and museum stores nationwide. Lisa began collecting contemporary product designs in the early 1980’s, and over the years, amassed more than 400 objects. She has written two previous design books, Antiques of the Future (Stewart, Tabori & Chang) and DesignPOP (Rizzoli). Additionally she was featured on a TV series that sold internationally called My Design Life.
Did you know that cats write poetry? OK, maybe they don’t but if they did it would result in a book called All Cats are Introverts by Francesco Marciuliano.
- From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of I Could Pee on This, Francesco Marciuliano presents this humorous and all too relatable book written from the perspective of some pensive, sometimes intense, but nonetheless insightful pets.
Have you ever been labeled as “antisocial,” “shy,” or “lost in your own thoughts” because you don’t realize someone’s been calling your name 148 times? The cats understand. All Cats Are Introverts is a collection of self-reflective poetry from cats that clearly shows them to be the insightful, often alert, crowd-averse, personally engaging, probably napping-as-we-speak introverts of the animal kingdom. Enjoy this completely relatable and hilarious book, and perhaps you will soon see the cat—and even yourself—in a whole new light. - About the Author: Francesco Marciuliano is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling book I Could Pee on This and Other Poems by Cats as well as the bestselling titles I Could Chew on This, I Knead My Mommy, You Need More Sleep, and I Could Pee on This, Too. He writes the internationally-syndicated daily comic strips Sally Forth and Judge Parker in addition to his webcomic Medium Large. He was also the Head Writer for the twice Emmy Award-winning children’s show SeeMore’s Playhouse and has written for the Onion News Network, Smosh, and McSweeney’s as well penned/typed/scrawled the play This Isn’t Working for the New York International Fringe Festival.
Finally there is a title I have personally lived, Sorry I Barfed on Your Bed Again by Jeremy Greenberg. I suppose that any of us that have cats have had cat barf on our beds. This book offers letters from our feline family members.
- From the author who brought you Sorry I Pooped in Your Shoe and Sorry I Slept on Your Face comes a new collection of hilarious letters from sassy kitties to the humans who love them, paired with adorable cat photos.
Tess wants you to know that she intends to continue throwing up freely as long as the new baby gets to—fair is fair. Ovid would like to inform you that he’s giving up one of his nine lives in order to avoid a visit to the vet—he’ll miss you and knows you understand. And Quinn assures you that she’ll protect you from whatever it is that’s rolled under the table with all the righteous fury in her little body—even if only turns out to be a dropped olive. Sorry I Barfed on Your Bed Again is full of funny letters and heartwarming photos—a perfect gift for cat lovers. - About the Author: Jeremy Greenberg is the best-selling author of 9 humor books, an award-winning parenting blogger, as well as an internationally headlining stand-up comedian and joke writer. When not traveling, Jeremy is at home in San Diego demonstrating alpha-male behavior to his twin, eight-year-old sons–mostly by saying “Whatever” and leaving the room every time his wife says that he’s incorrectly loaded the dishwasher. www.jeremygreenberg.com
