I was devastated when I had to stop making jewelry. It was something that really filled a place in my soul. When I discovered this unknown talent I was so happy; I’d never been an artistic sort and to find something so creative within myself was a real revelation. I so enjoyed the process of thinking up a design and seeing it through to completion. But my body had other ideas and I had to stop making jewelry. Sometimes I get so aggravated at my various heath problems but I settle and realize that there is just really nothing to be done. I’m coming up on 20 years since my initial diagnosis…but that is a subject for another post. Today we are celebrating for this is another entry in my 10th Blogaversary Party!
So why all the maudlin jewelry making chatter? Because I always wanted a necklace for myself made from Australian boulder opal – it’s a favorite of mine – but never got around to making one for myself. I decided it was time to have one made for myself. So I turned to one of my very first jewelry making friends on the internet – the very talented Vicki Potter from Orion Designs.
Vicki makes her lovely artisan earrings, necklaces and bracelets in Alaska. Her designs are full of sparkle and color. She has been making jewelry since 1997 and is well known throughout her home state. With my necklace she found me the perfect piece of boulder opal – it’s organic and the colors flash and dance in the light. To add a bit of balance and fun to the piece she added some Ethiopian opals.
Vicki is a dream to collaborate with – she checked with me all throughout the process of creating my special necklace and it’s perfect. You’ll get to see it on me before too long. The hubby was away until today and I just am no good at taking photos of myself to showcase a necklace. I am thrilled with my very special, one of a kind Orion Design!
