I do so love putting my tree up every year. It’s a fun walk down memory lane for me and it’s become a bit of a tradition for me to share it here on the blog. I have taken to highlighting a few of my favorite ornaments each year. This will be my 36th Christmas with the hubby and I have at least one ornament from every year. Every time we went somewhere, each time we marked an occasion another ornament went into the box. So many of them have meaning – others are just decorative.
I Have a Collection O’Cats
Then there are my Hallmark Mischievous Kittens. They are the only thing I collect – unless you count cookbooks. I have every one since they started the series. I group them together so that if you really look at my tree you will see the kitties all in one section. I don’t have them all shown in photos this year as I have highlighted them before. I will neither confirm nor deny that there are many, many other cat ornaments on my tree too.
A friend sent me this clever ornament one year – it’s got little pieces of coal, a little carrot and a scarf all sitting on sugar. It’s a melted snowman! How cute is that? It gives me the biggest smile every year when I unpack it.
Family Ornament Fun
After my father died and it was just me and my brothers I spent the next few Christmases giving my brothers (and me) the Hallmark Family Tree ornaments. We all have them with the same photos of my mother and one of my father. Then I gave each brother a personalized frame with a photo of me and him. I put one on my tree with the three of them from my one brother’s wedding.
If you can’t tell I am a big fan of Hallmark ornaments. They are just so cute – like this little guy – he is called Mistletoad. If you pull on his string he croaks.
I love my little pig ornament too. My father gave it to me. The horse above and to it’s left came from Chincoteague when we visited there. And my Kermit – he’s one of my originals. My mother gave him to me.
I always have my little stuffed Santa under my tree. I don’t even remember where I got him but he’s one of the few things that came with me when we moved into the trailer. I had boxes and boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations but when we moved our entire life into the trailer I had to seriously pare down. I could only bring so much so only a few things made the cut and this little guy was one of the things that did.
The back side is a little sparsely decorated compared to the front but I’m still trying to catch up on ornaments from having tiny trees in the trailer.
I hope you enjoyed this year’s journey through my memories. I certainly enjoy sharing them.
