I received a free copy of Container Gardens for my honest review.

About the Book:

Lack of space? Lack of time? No gardening experience? Need inspiration? No matter the issue, Southern Living magazine has the answer so that anyone can have a beautiful garden year-round using the brand’s newest book on container gardening. Container Gardens is a smart and sensible guide filled with beautiful, inspirational images that covers the basics for the beginner while sharing a wide array of ideas for the experienced gardener. There are step-by-step techniques and tips on planting and care for indoor and outdoor spaces, including ‘container recipes’ that share the exact plant combinations used so readers can recreate the look at home. This book also shows how containers can be used around the home and garden to create unique boundaries, break up wall space, and soften edges. With the flexibility of gardening year-round no matter the size of the space, container gardening has become a national trend and Southern Living has created the ultimate guide to doing it right.

My Opinion:

I love flowers. I’ve wanted to plant them for the longest time but I couldn’t because the goats would consider them “snax.”  Putting them up on the deck wouldn’t help because the goats have gotten up there and have munched on the hubby’s bonsai. So I’ve lived with the wildflowers that grow so abundantly here in Montana. But now the goats have gone on to other farms and now, maybe now I can actually have some pretty flowers all my own. That is why this stunning book is so timely.

The book is beautiful with lots of photos of flowers – glorious flowers in bloom. It gives the whys of container gardens and then breaks down into various types like entryways, vertical, indoor, outdoor and for edibles. I had so much fun looking through the book and getting ideas it almost made forget that it’s snowing again.

The book offers suggestions for plant groupings that grow well together and gives you “recipes” for plantings. You will find suggestions for container sizes and for how to arrange the different plants within the pot. I also learned about different types of potting materials.

Not every container has flowers. You will also find suggestions for green gardens and succulents. The book also offers many tips on the care and feeding if you will, of your garden once it’s been planted. All in all I think this is a wonderful book for someone who wants to try container gardening for the first time or who has done it before and wants some visually stunning inspiration for future projects.
