There are many ways to brighten a space in a room and I must admit that I am a longtime fan of decorating with baskets. Especially artisan made baskets as they lend a extra special touch to your space. This conversation is being brought to you today by UNICEF Market but all the thoughts and opinions are mine. I am going to show you some of my favorites from their collection from artisans all over the world and I hope you find one you like! After you have checked out the pretty baskets you can enter the giveaway for a $50 GC for anything that strikes your fancy at UNICEF Market.
First a little about UNICEF Market
It was founded in 2014 as an online market for people seeking unusual and beautifully made artisan items. In seeking a way to bring the artisan’s wares to the people UNICEF found a partner in NOVICA who had established a platform for selling in 1999. It’s a win/win in that you as a buyer get a lovely, hand crafted item, the artisan is able to make an income and UNICEF raises money to help complete its mission of helping children.
Hand Woven Baskets
The hubby and I were in Charleston, S.C., and we went to a craft fair. While walking around there was a woman weaving baskets. I can’t remember what she was using but I do remember that her work was stunning. Watching her was mesmerizing. This pine needle basket is woven by artisans in Guatemala.
I can see this lovely basket as the centerpiece of a fall tablescape full of shiny red and green apples or small pumpkins and gourds. It would be perfect on top of a holiday table runner.
Fiber Baskets
Baskets can be made with a single material or several as in this very pretty piece. The Colorful Weave is a handcrafted natural fiber basket made with sustainably sourced raffia and pine needles. It’s 2″ x 8 3/4″ so I think it would make a nice catch-all basket by the front door or on your dresser. It can easily hold keys, the mail, jewelry or whatever you want to have in one easy to find place. The colors are neutral yet not boring.
Bring on the Bling
Sometimes you want some sparkle. Now and then you don’t want to be purposeful. You just want something that is pretty and makes you smile. Bonus points are awarded if it’s also useful.
How gorgeous is this hand beaded natural fiber basket? Talented artisans in Indonesia bring the pattern called Hypnotic Diamond to life. It would certainly add a touch of glamour to a shelf or dresser wouldn’t it? There is no reason you couldn’t store something special inside of it.
These are not the only ways of decorating with baskets but I hope that I have given you some ideas and shown you some beautiful possibilities. There are many other artisan made baskets available at the UNICEF Market along with a world of shopping for the home and for gifts.
