Essential Oils for Pets for Your Natural Home
I was very thrilled with the Natural Home box last month and was very curious to see what this month’s box would be all about. I am happy to tell you that the May box from Simply Earth was all about pets. As with anything to do with your furry loved ones always be careful in how you work with or apply anything to them. Not all animals will react the same way to a scent. Cats are more sensitive than dogs – I know that cats do not like citrus scents. Just hold a bit of orange peel up to your cat and you will see it run! Here are some tips from the recipe box:
- Let your pet smell the recipe before you apply it. If they recoil, don’t use it. You don’t want to cause them stress.
- Allow an “escape” for your pet when using essential oils. This lets them leave the room if the scent is bothering them
- Start small and introduce essential oils slowly into your pet’s routine
So let’s dive into the box and see what is inside, ‘k?
What is in the This Simply Earth Recipe Box?
In addition to the recipe cards you will find 3 essential oils and one essential oil blend; Ginger, Citronella, Juniper Berry and Peace and Quiet (Lime, Cedarwood, Frankincense and Sweet Orange.) There are two lip balm tubes, a spray bottle, a 5 ml bottle and a bandanna.
I think Harry the City cat makes an excellent bandanna model. Don’t you? One of the recipes included was for a Tick and Mosquito application that you could put on the bandanna but as we (fingers crossed) don’t have issues with either I just let him model it as is.
Make a Pet Odor Eliminator Spray with Essential Oils for Pets
As I looked through this month’s recipes it was the Pet Odor Eliminator Spray that called to me. Living with four cats leads to some pet odors. Especially when one of those cats is getting old and sometimes misses his aim in the litter box. But any of us with furry family members knows that we love them and forgive them these errors.
The spray was super easy to make:
- 10 drops ginger essential oil
- 20 drops Peace and Quiet essential oil blend*
- 2 oz distilled water
- 1 2 oz spray bottle
Add the ginger essential oil and the Peace and Quiet essential oil blend to the spray bottle. Pour in the distilled water, twist on the lid and shake.
*cats may not like the Peace and Quiet blend due to the presence of sweet citrus oil. I used it anyway because I planned to use it in places I didn’t want the cats to go. I was using this more like a certain “fabric refresher.” Test it in an out of the way place first! I had no issues but it’s still good to test anything new on your fabrics.
If nothing else it smells nice and refreshing and if it keeps the cats from going where I don’t want them to go that is a big bonus!
