Friday’s Hunt – Fall Colors and Farm Cats

I would like to thank everyone for all of your comments on my post last week about the goats leaving the Farm. It was a hard week for me and your kind thoughts made it a little bit easier.

It’s time for another Friday’s Hunt – the fun photohunt hosted by Teresa at Eden Hills. It’s easy to participate and you can join in at any time. Each week she gives three prompts and you can choose to showcase 1, 2 or all 3. This weeks prompts are:

  1. Starts with Q
  2. Week’s Favorite
  3. Spring or Fall

Starts with Q

Snowy the Farm cat had to be quick to catch the “birdie” at the end of the wand toy. It was part of some quality time I was spending with her because she and Harry were having their quibbles.

Fall

Fall in Montana is nothing like what you see back East but that does not mean we don’t have flashes of brilliance. The hubby and I are taking a beekeeping class – we are adding bees to the farm next spring – and I took some photos on the drive to Missoula this week.

The main color of our Fall is yellow; shades from bright gold to burnished umber. There aren’t as many deciduous trees here and the cottonwoods, larch (a deciduous conifer – how intriguing is that?) plus a few aspen and birch. The trees in these photos are cottonwoods – they are found near water. When come into bloom in the spring they send out their seeds in little cottony poofs. It can be so thick you think it is snowing!

The aspen and birch tend to grow higher up and deeper in the forest.

I will be the first to admit that this is not the world’s greatest photo but the look on Harry’s face is just priceless. He was lying on the bed and I quickly snapped the picture. It wasn’t until I looked at it later that I saw his expression. I put it on Instagram with the caption, “I do not think we need any more Farm cats.”

He and Snowy do not get along. It’s a little bit better than it was at first but there is still a lot of hissing and yowling. I am hopeful that they will eventually, if not like each other, learn to ignore each other.

Be sure you head over to Eden Hills to check out all of the other blogs participating in Friday’s Hunt.
