About Her Secret War:
A life-changing moment
May 1941: German bombs drop on Dublin taking Sarah Gillespie’s family and home. Days later, the man she loves leaves Ireland to enlist.
A heart-breaking choice
With nothing to keep her in Ireland and a burning desire to help the war effort, Sarah seeks refuge with relatives in England. But before long, her father’s dark past threatens to catch up with her.
A dangerous mission
Sarah is asked to prove her loyalty to Britain through a special mission. Her courage could save lives. But it could also come at the cost of her own…

My Opinion:
I know. I know. I keep saying that I have sworn off on WWII books until I read another WWII book. But this one wasn’t so much focuses on the War and it takes place before the US gets into the fighting. It’s concentrated to Ireland/England and delves into a bit of war history I hadn’t read all that much about and it intrigued me so I am allowed to break my own rules.
Sarah is a girl just trying to keep her family functioning in the face of an abusive father and an increasingly turbulent world. When a bomb drops on her neighborhood, destroying everything she ever knew she leaves Ireland to live with relatives in England. There she hopes to find peace, yet revenge burns within her for what was done to her family.
She starts work in a job with security implications and finds herself at the center of a plot – will she play by the rules? What follows is a quick paced, engaging read that kept me turning pages as I raced through to a very satisfying ending. I was left with the feeling that another book featuring our heroine certainly could be developed (hopefully?)
I enjoyed the characters and it was a thrilling way to spend an afternoon – if you have been reading my reviews for any length of time you know by now that I read very quickly. Anyone who enjoys strong heroines and quick moving plots will certainly enjoy this trip back to WWII.
