I have long been a fan of Dean Russo’s designs so when I learned that he was expanding into journals with Fox Chapel Publishing I was very exciting. I was sent samples of the new line for the purposes of review but all opinions are my own.
Journals Get Colorful Thanks to Dean Russo’s Designs
I have a large collection of Dean Russo Tee Shirts and I just love them. The colorful designs really appeal to me. When I learned that Mr. Russo was expanding into journals I was very excited. I am always writing things down and having a book with one of his artworks on the front would be so much fun.
I was sent three different designs to consider and I am sure you can guess which one is my favorite. That is not to say that I don’t like the others, I just love cats as we all know. The colors are just as bright and beautiful as you see in the photo.
As per usual around here I could get no photos taken without feline assistance. Harry apparently approves of these bold and bright journals. I don’t blame him – they are very cool.
Quality Journals
These well made journals are from Fox Chapel Publishing. I found them to be well bound and to have a generous amount of pages for writing whatever you want to record.
The pages are lined but beyond that the only other marking is “date” at the top of the page. That leaves you with the freedom to write, draw, doodle or whatever in your journal. The paper is a lovely weight so you don’t have to worry about it tearing.

Some Journaling Basics
For anyone new to journaling don’t worry. It’s something you do to relax so don’t get all tense about how to go about it. Here are some basic steps:
- Find a quiet place to settle with your journal
- Let your thoughts settle and just start writing
- These are your thoughts so don’t worry about grammar or sentence structure – just write and let the thoughts flow. Eventually you will fall into a routine and it won’t seem a struggle
- Don’t feel you have to keep writing. Pause if you need to. Explore what you are seeing or feeling.
- Stop when you feel you are done. Again – there are no hard and fast rules.
Bonus tip: cats probably are not the best journaling partners. Cats are all about ME! ME! ME!
Journaling Inspirations
Are you ready? Have you found some journaling inspirations? Having a beautiful journal and easy writing pen are a good start. I use my Cross fountain pen that my father gave to me when I was in High School. Yes, it still works despite being over 40 years old. I love that pen and it writes like silk.
Others like to journal in different colors. It’s all about what works for you.
