Well, the mystery as to AbbyGoat’s pregnancy was solved on Sunday when the hubby came in and said, “we have some work to do.” Apparently a neighbor and her three little ones came by to see the goats and one little girl pointed to Abby and asked, “what’s that?” He looked over and a kid was starting to emerge. It was not alive so we were going to have to help get it out. I can’t say this was the most fun I’ve had on the farm and I never thought I’d hear the words, “your hands are smaller you’re gonna have to be the one to go in.”
*sigh*
The poor little thing looked quite full term. We didn’t look to see if if was a buck or a doe but we both figure it was a doe ’cause that is just how things work out around here. Abby is acting quite normally but she did let out some MAAAAAAAs when I was, erm assisting in the stillbirth.
Now we just have to get her to gain some weight. I think she has earned her retirement. It’s shaggy time around the farm – all of the goats are shedding their winter underfur.
Thelma the goat went into heat.
Luke the goat was very interested in this fact.
He managed to break down the doe pen gate.
THIS was a first.
I don’t want Thelma pregnant again so soon. I don’t think it’s healthy for them to have two kids in one year.
Luke does not care about my thoughts when his hormones are running high.

I tried to get him erm, away from Thelma.
Thelma was not helping.
Luke tossed me like I was a minor nuisance.
I went back and wrestled him away.
I won’t know if I was fully successful for a month,
Keep your fingers crossed please.
*sigh*
Now that I am milking again I can make ice cream. Not only ice cream but ice cream cake. I love ice cream cake. I made the first one of the season over the weekend.
I was very happy with how it came out.
I think I’ve finally conquered this. I went through several incarnations until I came up with a combination of cookie recipe and icing that pleased me and froze well.
It’s very yummy.
I’m looking forward to another piece tonight.
Can’t put ALL of the milk towards soap now can I?
I can’t wait to see what this week brings…..
