Montana Moments by Chuck Haney – Book Review

I love my new home state – although calling it new after I have lived here for 12 years is amusing. Although I suppose to native born Montanans I am and will always be a newcomer. This is a huge state and there is still a lot of it I haven’t seen so when I was offered Montana Moments by Chuck Haney I gladly accepted a copy at no charge for my honest review.

About Montana Moments:

Nationally acclaimed photographer Chuck Haney (Portrait of San Francisco, Badlands Impressions) proudly presents his view of Montana in this beautiful, large-format collection from Farcountry Press. Montana Moments, Chuck’s fourth photography book featuring his home state of Montana, offers a seemingly endless supply of flowing rivers, tranquil lakes, rugged mountain peaks, and rolling prairie. From key natural landmarks to idyllic western towns, Montana Moments serves as a fantastic photographic representation of the best hits of Big Sky Country.

Each of the 148 full-color Montana photographs is accompanied by educational and informative captions from the photographer. The perfect gift to memorialize a family vacation or show off your favorite state, Montana Moments is a perfect Big Sky celebration.

About the Author:

Chuck Haney is a professional freelance photographer and writer based in beautiful Whitefish, Montana. He travels extensively across the United States and Canada in pursuit of the finest and most intriguing images. His provocative use of natural light in landscape, wildlife and outdoor sports images have drawn national acclaim and have landed him many assignments including advertising campaigns. Chuck’s finest images grace the walls of many residential and public spaces. His travel and outdoor lifestyle articles have been featured in numerous national and regional publications; adding to thirteen coffee table books, over 190 magazine covers, and sole-photographer calendars to his credit. Chuck enjoys teaching a series of popular photography workshops across the country each year.

My Opinion:

This is a beautiful book. Absolutely stunning. It has words but the words really aren’t the point. The photos are the point. I have said since I moved here that Montana is one of the most scenically beautiful places I have ever seen and I’ve been some beautiful places.

This is a large, coffee table type book so the photos have a large platform to be showcased. And they deserve it. Mr. Haney manages to capture the different geologic areas of Montana and show them off to great advantage. From the snow covered peaks of the mountains to the windswept plains the glory of Montana is on view.  The book has shown me just how little of my new home I have seen and how much there is for me to yet explore.

Whether you are a long time Montana resident or a “wish you were here” type this book will bring the beauty of the state to you in living color.
