When we bought our new house we knew it needed a fair amount of work. It only had one bathroom and it had no kitchen to speak of (if you click the new house link above you can see the kitchen in all its glory). The contractor has started and there has been lots of hammering and banging going on but I am happy to report that I have a new bathroom! It’s so nice to not have to navigate the steps in the middle of the night.
Bathroom/Laundry Room
It’s actually a bathroom/laundry room as we have now moved the washer and dryer out of the … dining room(?). Not exactly the first place I would think to put them but that is where they were. Now they are in a custom built box and they look spiffy…
… don’t they? It makes things super easy. I am also excited to let you know that Sunshine Clothes Dryer has sent me one of their wonderful outdoor clotheslines that the husband will put up as soon as the construction crew is out of the back yard. If you will recall I had one in Montana and LOVED it. I was also sent two others to share with people here in Vermont so stay tuned!
You might also notice that the dryer is very much smaller than the washer. That is because the husband went eco-friendly and found a heat pump dryer. My opinion on this thing has not yet been fully formed so I will not comment for if I did I might scream into the void for the length of time it takes this thing to dry a load of laundry. Ooops, did I let my opinion out….
But the room looks, nice doesn’t it?
The tub is AWESOME and we found a great vanity and medicine cabinet to complete the room. The lights over the sink suit the house and our builder made that cool whatsis over the medicine cabinet so they would hang better. It still needs to be painted but he did an awesome job!
Curtains Add a Special Touch
I have mentioned many a time on this blog how much I adore the art of Mandy Budan. She is a abstract landscape artist from Canada. Her art is available on a myriad number of household and wearable items so I will be filling my home with it. Starting with the bathroom. I bought curtains for the window and to cover the storage area on the opposite side of the room.
The “linen closet” in the room was always a bit of an eyesore and I couldn’t wait to get it covered. Buying a paired set of drapes was the perfect answer. It’s very easy to access anything we are storing in there but now it looks pretty.
Not Quite Finished
The room is not quite finished as the husband has to paint the floor. I am hoping this happens in my lifetime. He will also be making some adjustments to the paint on the wall – actually I might do that as I don’t mind painting walls – as the painter didn’t do exactly what I wanted in there. We will also add a table of some kind to make folding the laundry a little easier. Right now all I have is the top of the machines and that’s at just above shoulder level and it is not at all comfortable.
But overall I am pretty thrilled with how the room came out. It so very nice to have the second bathroom and to have it on the floor with the bedrooms. The men doing the work are doing a great job and they are working quickly.
On to the kitchen which looks like this right now….
…that will be another post. Hopefully not too long from now.
