Shelters Need Help at the Holidays
Since I moved to Montana I’ve been a big fan and supporter of one shelter in particular – AniMeals in Missoula. It was wonderful to be able to use the savings I found at Target on PurinaONE, Friskies, Fancy Feast and more to be able to take them a very nice donation for the holiday. I’ll show you in a bit how you can put together a holiday surprise for your shelter plus give you free printables for some gift tags.

We Have a New Favorite
I brought home PurinaONE kibble and Party Mix treats and let’s just say that for at least one Farm cat there’s a new kibble in the yurt. I put out samples for everycat to taste test and one cat in particular is now hooked.
Snowy the Farm cat will no longer eat the Purina ProPlan Savor kibble and wants the PurinaONE in her bowl. She took to it like it was t.r.e.a.t.s. I picked up the Sensitive Systems food as Pumpkin the Farm cat has been having some tummy troubles but he will only eat it if I tell him it is treats. He will not eat it from the kibble bowl.
I truly think the Farm cats are here to drive me over the edge.
But I love them and try to do the best I can for them. Which includes spoiling them. Just a little bit, but I’m glad that I’m able to spoil the Farm cats. I do try and feed them the best food I can afford and given that there are five of them cat food is a big chunk of our monthly budget but it’s important to me that they eat the best food I can find for them. I love when I find a way to save a little here because that allows me to make a donation to my favorite cat shelter. Shopping at Target is Easy and Fun
I love going into my local Target. It’s clean, there are always plenty of shopping carts and I never fail to find what I need. OK, I also tend to find some things I didn’t know I needed. The cashiers and sales associates are some of the friendliest I encounter anywhere. The day I went in to acquire the Purina items for my donation to AniMeals they were even having a big sale on cat kibble. Hooray for that!

To surprise your shelter with a holiday donation:
- gather together the food and treats of course! Kitties (and dogs – I’m not purposely forgetting dogs but AniMeals is a cat only shelter) need treats too.
- Purchase some happy gift bags to make the delivery festive
- Pack everything up in the bags and deliver.
I am not talking rocket science here obviously, but I do want to encourage you to make a donation to your local shelter if you can. There is a bonus too….
You can spend time petting the kitties! I cheated on the Farm cats and spent some time interacting with the senior kitties at AniMeals. As I am sure most of you are aware, senior cats are less likely to be adopted and they spend more time in shelters than kittens do.
I did also visit with some other cats in need of adoption – there are so very many. If you can’t afford to make a donation to your shelter I am sure that they would be more than happy to welcome your time.
Holiday Gifts for Your Pets

A Great Visit
When I visited AniMeals I took them food, chow and treats from Purina thanks to the great prices at Target as well as two bags and several boxes full of toys and scratchers that I had been accumulating here on the farm. The volunteers were very happy to receive them and I know that the kitties at the shelter will be happy to have some good food and new toys to brighten their days.
Back Home on the Farm
The Farm cats know they have it made; they have a warm house, lots of love and good food to eat. They don’t have to live in a cage and wonder if there will be anyone to pet them today, tomorrow or the next day. They know that if they want a bit of loving they just have to find me and I’ll be there. They know that they will have delicious Purina ProPlan and Beyond wet food twice a day.
They know that their kibble bowls will be always filled with PurinaONE and Purina ProPlan Savor. They know that I will call them each and every night for their treats before bed.
