Who Makes the Oral ProBiotics?
Dental health is very important and I think it is often overshadowed by other health issues. Did you know that there are oral probiotics? I didn’t and I was very glad to become educated on the topic.
Smile Brilliant – a company known for their professional teeth whitening products have now introduced a line of dental probiotics and other products to support oral health. Started in 2013 they developed a revolutionary, professional at home teeth whitening system that allowed their customers to create custom fitted teeth whitening trays by taking the impression at home and dropping it in the mail.
It was just like what you did at the dentist office but for a fraction of the cost. The kit provided the highest allowable at home teeth whitening with a unique solution to combat sensitivity in the teeth. It also helped to block re-staining while whitening.
Included in that line are:
- Water Flosser – floss teeth more effectively and comfortably using targeted water pressure
- Custom Night Guard System – custom guard that protects teeth at night from grinding and clenching
- Plaque Highlighters – for kids and adults – use temporary oral dye to show areas plaque is gathering so it can be removed by good brushing
What Do Oral Probiotics Do?
Now Smile Brilliant is here with their new Dental Probiotics that provide a myriad of benefits including cold immune support and flu immune support. Plus give the times we are now in, covid immune support.
Many of us have heard of probiotics for maintaining intestinal (gut) health, but probiotics have actually been shown to be very useful in many other areas of the body, for skincare and dental care in particular.
Like other types, dental probiotics shift the balance of the existing bacterial composition (microbiome) toward an increased population of “good bacteria”, improving the overall health and fortitude of that area.
What that means for the user, is that their mouths are healthier: there is reduced plaque and tartar, fewer cavities, less gum inflammation and what causes of bad breath. That protection actually extends to their ear, nose and throat providing immune support and protection against viruses and developing infections (sinus and ear).
How to Take Oral Probiotics
This is the easy part; you just chew a pill at night after you brush your teeth. It’s that simple. The pills are not chalky at all and have a mildly sweet flavor called pomegranate berry but to me it was just “mildly sweet.” I truly didn’t discern any specific taste profile.
I kept the bottle of dental probiotics by my toothpaste and toothbrush so it was easy to remember to chew the pill when I was finished brushing my teeth. Oral heath is so important that any little thing that can help is good.
Cold and Flu Support
In this season of flu I will take any extra protection I can get. Covid immune support is welcome too. There are so many “things” out to get us these days we really need to do all we can to stay healthy and well. I know I do my best to eat right and exercise (OK, I might not do that as often as I should) so adding probiotics only makes sense.
If using probiotics for bad breath is also a bonus – hey I am there for that too. Anyone who visits this blog with any regularity knows I love too cook things like seafood medley in garlic wine sauce and garlic shrimp pizza.
Do you detect a theme? I obviously cook with lots of garlic! After meals like those one definitely needs some help with bad breath!
