When the hubby and I settled down in Montana it was more than a move from a fifthwheel back to a house again – it was a commitment to a way of life. We were moving to a rural area and we were going to grow our own food. The area where we lived in New Jersey wasn’t urban but it wasn’t rural either; everything we needed was available within 15 minutes at the most. As for growing things – we’d gardened but it was so we could have some tomatoes and lettuce. One thing would remain the same – we had always been the types to volunteer but now that we were no longer working full time jobs we were going to pump up our social responsibility both to our community and to our planet. Deciding that, we began a lifestyle that now has us living in an eco-friendly yurt, growing 85% of what we eat, keeping chickens and herding goats. The hubby is very concerned about the environment and is very involved with a group promoting Climate Change education. I am committed to maintaining my healthy home by using products that are chemical free and by canning, drying and freezing the produce from the gardens. I am very supportive of my local food bank and send in food, excess produce and other donations whenever I can.
In my continuing desire to use products that don’t hurt the Earth I was very pleased to learn of a new line from Walgreens called Ology. Ology doesn’t use toxic chemicals and the paper products are tree-free; they are made from fast growing bamboo and renewable sugar husk. No artificial dyes or fragrances are used and they never test on animals. My kind of products! These are perfect for our earth friendly commitment.
Montana is about the dustiest place I have ever lived so having an all purpose cleaner that I like is important. Not to mention the fact that I make a royal mess in the kitchen with all of my baking! Several that I have tried are either scented too strongly or not at all. This has a lovely, light citrus scent. Since you have to clean you might as well enjoy it, right?

I also need a laundry soap that is effective – after all I am married to a man that tends (TENDS?) to get dirty. Between digging in the garden, working on his motorcycle and smelling like the inside of a chimney when he comes home from a fire he has some serious skillz when it comes to getting filthy and well, stinky. I need a laundry soap that CLEANS. I also want one that is safe for my septic system. Heaven knows I don’t need septic problems. No one wants them! Ology accomplishes both! I love that Spring is FINALLY here and I can hang my laundry out on the line.
I am so much happier when I can take advantage of Nature’s dryer. The lovely Spring Lavender and Vanilla scent was not at all overwhelming on the clothes. To me there is nothing as nice as using a towel that has been dried in the sun; add in a light touch of natural scents and I’m in heaven.
It was so easy to find these products at Walgreens. I was able to use my Balance Rewards Card to save money – every penny counts these days. I don’t have the budget of a two income household any longer. The Ology line also includes body care products, paper plates and napkins and a baby care. The distinctive packaging with the bright pink “Ology” makes them easy to spot on the shelves.
As I mentioned above my local food bank is always in need of paper products. I used to volunteer at the food bank every week until my health made me have to stop. It doesn’t mean I still don’t support it with donations as often as I can. Most offerings people make to the food bank are food – what comes to your mind first if thinking of donating? Of course they need food but toiletries and paper products are also in demand. Fresh food like vegetables and fruit are also very much appreciated.

I would have never known this myself had I not worked in the food bank and dealt with the requests week after week. It was heartbreaking when someone would ask for toilet tissue and I had none to give. When you are having difficulty just feeding your family paper products are not at the top of your shopping list. So consider dropping off a package (or two or three) of Ology Toilet Tissue to your local food bank. This week I’ll be sending in eggs, burger and Ology paper products. We try to send in a box a couple of times a month. The #CollectiveBias in this household is to try and help both our community and our planet as best we can.
