About the Author:
Tempesta’s Dream is about love; romantic love, familial love, and love of opera. Giovani Tempesta grows up with a father who loves the art form and instills the same love into his son. Apparently Giovanni has the voice of an angel and learns to sing all of the famous operas by rote. His father tells him he is destined for greatness and to any Italian opera singer that greatness must involve singing at La Scala Opera House. What Giovanni needs is a teacher but no one will take him on because he is too old and has not been studying at a school from a young age.
He finally finds an old opera singer living in a home who recognizes his talent and this man helps him refine his voice and he gives Giovanni the boost he needs to start his career to honor his father. Just as his luck changes disaster happens and he finds himself back where he started – with a great voice but no future. Will Giovanni every realize his dream?
If you know nothing about opera at the start of this book you will be well educated by the end of it. In fact at some points I wasn’t sure if I was reading a fiction book or a history of opera book and that got a touch tiresome to me at times. I can respect including backstory but I truly felt like I was in a classroom at times. I can’t say I either loved it or hated it. It kept me interested at points and and it dragged in others but overall it was an interesting diversion from my normal reading.
