It seems a tradition now to do a video of the garden on July 1. This year the plants are very far ahead of where they were last year so that is a good thing. The temperatures are more August-like right now than they should be. Last week saw us hitting 105° which is even high for late summer here. C.R.A.Z.Y. weather to say the least.
The hubby harvested the garlic and I would have to say it was a good crop. Oy vey! I still have garlic leftover from last year. I’m going to have to get to pickling some I think. I suspect I’ll have enough to get me through the year – don’t you?
We have been enjoying spinach and lettuce for a couple of weeks now and I’ve been making some really delicious salads for dinner like the Poached Chicken with Fruit Salsa I wrote about last week. I’ll have one next week with calamari – that was a tasty one too! The salads are especially good when it’s so hot.
There have been a few strawberries but not as many as last year. I’m hoping they start to really produce soon. It was such a delight to have them last year. I really want a strawberry pie!
The first of the snow peas came in a couple of days ago so I’ll be dealing with them for a while and then the green beans will follow. And so it begins – the familiar routine of the summer gardening season. For now here is the video of how everything looked yesterday – enjoy!
