I had read about the Tunbridge World’s Fair a bit ago in the paper and knew I wanted to go. Fairs are just so much fun! We have a friend visiting and I figured it would be a fun way to spend one of the day’s of her stay. I knew very little about it before we went other than it was a FAIR. Since then I have done a little bit of research and I will now share my knowledge with you so you can know about it if you ever visit Vermont in fair season. Otherwise you can just enjoy the plethora of bovine photos.
The Tunbridge World’s Fair
This year the Fair celebrated it’s 150th year of sharing all that is special from Tunbridge and it’s surrounding environs. There were all manner of exhibits from animals to crafts to cheese to maple syrup and I am sure so many more that I am forgetting.
The Fair also had a rather large midway with all of the rides one would expect at such a big event. As I am now older than dirt I no longer go on fair rides. Was a time in my life when I would enjoy a ride around a very fast, spinning car but no longer. Now I just watch and listen to everyone else scream.
Bovines!
There were a lot of them. Cows in every size, shape and color. There were cows everywhere. I can’t say that I remember seeing any goats but I suspect there were goats somewhere. Or it could have been that goats had been shown on another day of the fair. Oh, except for this guy….
…some set of horns on him, eh? I don’t know exactly what kind of goat he was but he certainly had more horns than most goats I have ever met. He was not very friendly – I suspect he was a little bit scared. Poor fair animals are transported in trailers, then put into strange pens and have people walking by and staring at them for days on end.
There were not many goats but there were a lot of cows. Many, many, many cows. Barns and barns full of cows. With the occasional bull….
…this is Pearl? I am sure there is a reason he is named Pearl but whatevs. He does not look happy here, does he?
Fair Food
For me, half of the fun of going to a fair is the food to be had. And heaven knows I had my share of fair food. I know it is not good for me, but that does not stop me from indulging. It’s only once or maybe twice a year so I don’t think it’s going to hurt me too badly, right?
This go round my biggest indulgence was a foot long hot dog and that sucker was actually a foot long! It was also very, very good. There was also ice cream, a funnel cake and I am sure some other things I am not remembering.
All in all I had a wonderful time at the Tunbridge World’s Fair and hope that I will be able to go back next year!
