Spider plants are not only attractive, they are beneficial to your home environment. NASA did a study that showed that a spider plant removed 95% of the toxins in the air within 24 hours of its being in the room. This outperformed any other houseplant.
Yes, they are attractive to cats but they are not toxic to them so if your feline has a little munch it will annoy you – it does me – but it will not harm them. Right now all of my spiders are on the windowsill over my sink so they are out of the reach of my cats as they are now allowed on the counters. As I move plants into planters who knows….

How to Root and Transplant Spider Babies
My spider plant was grown from a baby that was cut from a plant that my husband brought to our marriage. He doesn’t know how old it was before that but we have been married 41 years now so this plant is O.L.D.
When we moved into our fifthwheel to travel about we gave the original plant to our sister in law as we could not take it with us. When we moved back into a house she mailed me cuttings. It was so very sweet of her. From those cuttings this big plant grew. I am now making more plants from it. Spiders are so very easy to propagate.
To start you simply plop one of the babies into a jar of water and allow it to root. Keep it attached to the plant at this point. Although, if disaster strikes and it is not attached no worries because obviously I rooted my babies far, far from the mother plant!
Once the baby has rooted you can transplant it into a pot. Place some stones at the bottom of the pot to help with drainage, then add some good potting soil, add the rooted baby, and top with some more soil. Water.
Keep the plant attached to mother at this point if you can. Again, I was able to propagate a very strong plant from cuttings far from the original plant but my husband tells me this will only help the new plant to grow so what can it hurt if I can allow it?
In a week or so I will cut them from the mother plant and hang them in their new homes to start cleaning the air in other areas of my house. Many other babies are growing so I can make other plants to green up all the rooms of my house.
