Travelin’ Before the Farm: The Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

This is a Fashionista Events Opportunity.

When we were traveling about in the fifth wheel we spent a fair amount of time in both Washington and Oregon. The Pacific Northwest is home to some absolutely glorious scenery and I was always happy to return. We had friends that lived in Washington. They were on a small lake with a stunning view. If the clouds parted you could see Mount Rainier in the distance.

Can you imagine being able to walk out on your deck and see that every day. Well, every day the weather allowed…It made a lovely stopping off point on our return trip to Montana each year. We’d visit for a bit and then head to our next destination whether it was somewhere else in Washington or down into Oregon. We always tried to see something different each time we passed through as there is just so much to see in the beautiful country of ours.

One year we stayed almost three weeks so the hubby could have fun exploring the Columbia River Gorge. It is an absolutely beautiful area. (The Clark Fork River that runs in front of the yurt actually spills in to the Columbia.) He did a lot of hiking and some white water rafting. I went on some baby hikes – otherwise known as “walks” and enjoyed the views.

The last time we were there it was too early in the season to get to Crater Lake. I am fascinated with all things volcano so this lake in a caldera fascinates me. We were going to plan to be there at the right time the next year but that happened to be the year we settled down. Of course. Now I’ll have to wait ’til we decide to no longer be goat farmers.

I’m glad we are not that far away from these beautiful sights. There will be a day when we can actually get away. Together. AT THE SAME TIME. Oregon and its glorious wonders will be waiting. For me they are only a few hours away.
