Sometimes a little romance is just what I need in the middle of my reading schedule. Twisted Fate by Dana Miller was a nice change of pace. I thank TLC Book Tours for sending me a copy at no charge for my honest review.
About Twisted Fate:
Laina Jorden’s Shakespeare-themed Staten Island bookstore is on the brink of failure. She can barely drag herself out of bed before lunch. She rarely picks up after herself, and she’s lost her belief in fate ever since her childhood sweetheart moved away, leaving her broken-hearted. Any man she meets is quickly kicked to the curb; they can’t compare to Jared.
But when Laina’s zany roommate forces her to attend his cousin’s wedding, she finds herself walking down the aisle as an emergency bridesmaid in a dress meant for a woman nine months pregnant. Even after drinking too much and setting her dress on fire, Laina manages to catch Mason’s eye. But a few months later, while she’s meeting his family in the Bahamas, Laina realizes that Mason’s stepbrother, JP, is none other than her old flame Jared. Is it too late to untangle the web she’s twisted in? Determined to find true happiness, Laina must uncover secrets and balance friendship against love as she fights to regain her destiny.

My Opinion:
Laina is hardly living. She barely gets out of bed every day and the only reason she is functional at all is because of her friend Preston. Her brother has died and her boyfriend just up and left. When he forces her to keep her commitment to attend his cousin’s wedding with him she barely cares but once there she ends up as an emergency bridesmaid. What’s even worse is that the woman she is replacing was very pregnant and the dress, well – it doesn’t fit. Laina looks ridiculous but who is going to see her anyway. She celebrates a little too hard and ends up setting herself on fire. While this is not a good thing it does bring her a new boyfriend, Mason.
After a bit Mason takes her to the Bahamas to meet his family and who is there but her ex! He is Mason’s stepbrother. He is also marrying another woman. Laina has so many questions but will the answers really give her what she wants?
This was an entertaining romance. As I often remark with my book review schedule, I find it curious how I often have similar books back to back in my reading. Two light reads in a row was really nice given that it’s my busy season here with the garden. I did enjoy the story and of course the book shop owned by the main characters was a great aspect for all of us that love books and book stores.
Of course love isn’t easy or simple for when is it? But reading about others’ efforts to get to true love is a time tested diversion and one that most of us enjoy. This book has all the emotions and is a great way to while away and afternoon.
