Vermont Romantic Getaway – The Four Columns Inn in Newfane

My husband took me for a Vermont romantic getaway last week and it was just delightful. Covid has really impacted everyone’s ability to go out and do well, anything! The last time we ate dinner in a restaurant was before we  moved from Montana to Vermont. Since we have lived in Vermont we have pretty much been staying in.

But February brought a milestone – our 40ieth anniversary – and the husband surprised me with an overnight getaway to the Four Columns Inn in Newfane, Vermont. It’s a lovely bed and breakfast and it was truly just what we both needed.

Romantic Vermont Getaway

The Four Columns Inn has a variety of rooms available and I can tell you from the experience we had that it’s a lovely place for a romantic Vermont getaway. Our room had a super comfy king bed and a large en suite bathroom with a huge jetted tub.

large en suite tub

I took advantage of that tub. After I experienced a wonderful massage. The husband surprised me with the massage and it was heavenly. I haven’t had one in a while and it did wonders for all my aches and pains. Between that and soaking in the tub full of hot water I was relaxed.

I might have napped before dinner. But that was OK. The whole point of our little getaway was to relax and enjoy ourselves. Our room was very comfortable and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

Dinner at the Four Columns

We had a lovely dinner; short ribs for me, scallops for the husband. Dessert was a truly tasty ice cream with a puff pastry beignet on the side. Mmmm, ice cream.  I didn’t take pictures as I just wanted to enjoy my meal with my husband. Also it was really dark in the restaurant. But mostly I just want to enjoy my meal with my husband.

Also included in the package was brunch the next morning. During the winter season food is only served four days a week (Thursday through Sunday). Brunch was delicious – eggs, waffles, pancakes, cereal – just about anything you could want for breakfast.

And the coffee was excellent. You have to appreciate good coffee when you get good coffee.

what to do

The Grounds

Obviously February is not high time to be visiting if your goal is to go walking in the woods or to enjoy a swim in a lovely outdoor pool. But if that is something you really want to do the Four Columns has both! If you book your stay in the summer or fall you can take advantage of the beautiful weather here in Vermont and enjoy the 138 acres that surround the buildings.

There are hiking trails to follow – just imagine how glorious they must be during foliage season! Imagine what the view through that window above must be when the trees are turning. This was what I saw out of one of the windows in the room – looking across to the main building and to the tree covered mountains beyond.

There is also an outdoor pool but of course this was not something we even got near as it’s February and the pool was not functional. And why would I want a pool when I had that glorious tub in my room?

Other Amenities Available

We booked the Spa Package which came with one deep tissue massage and a lovely gift package in the room with a bath bomb, lotion and bubble bath. There are also Swedish and pregnancy massages available.

If you regularly travel with your pet the Four Columns offers pet friendly rooms upon request. Just make arrangements ahead of time and you will be able to know Fido will be welcomed. (I sincerely doubt they would welcome Fang. No one would welcome Fang. Except me.

A Lovely Stay

It was truly a lovely way for us to have a little getaway and celebrate. Had times been normal we might have headed up to Montreal as that is where we went on our honeymoon but times are anything but normal. In the absence of that normal this was a perfect respite from the ordinary.

Even though I was only a half hour from home I felt far away. I was pampered and rested and felt like a queen for a day. It truly is a lovely inn and a wonderful experience. So if you in the market for a little vacation and want something special I can definitely recommend The Four Columns Inn for a Vermont romantic getaway.
