Easy Date Night Fashion for Cool Spring Evenings - Farm Fashion Friday

On Sunday the hubby and I went to one of our favorite places, Quinn’s Hot Springs for a bit of a romantic getaway. The trip coincided with a bit of a cold snap here in beautiful Montana and the temps were expected to drop precipitously in the evening so I needed to dress with care. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has ever had to deal with date night fashion for cool spring evenings. I’ll show you how I dealt with it and offer some suggestions that work for me.

Fashion for Cool Spring Evenings

Let me first note that Montana is not known for dressing up when going out. As far as I can see you can tell it’s a formal occasion when someone has their dress cowboy boots on. We were heading out for dinner and a show. The nighttime temps were supposed to get down to the mid 30ies so I knew I’d better make sure I was prepared.

I’ll start with my base outfit. I went with an old favorite actually - this particular combination has taken me to several different types of occasions. I like it because it’s comfortable and colorful. The jeans are basic, boot cut Gap. Nothing fancy there but they allow me to wear my everyday cowboy boots. I practically live in my boots here. I’ve had them forever. I believe I’ve mentioned that I’m on my third set of soles. When it comes to something you know you will be wearing over and over again. Something that will never go out of style? This is where you want to make an investment.

My boots are from Tony Lama and I’ve had them for over 15 years. I don’t think they make the style I have any longer and they were pricey that long ago but given the two re-solings I would say we have gotten our money out of them. I take care of them and they take care of me. (Similar HERE)

ThredUp for Leather

The leather jacket was a wonderful purchase from ThredUP. I have bought several leather pieces from my favorite online thrift shop and this Wilson’s Leather blazer is one I wear quite often. When it arrived in the famous ThredUp polka dot box it was as if brand new. The shop also offers a big selection of faux leather for those of you that don’t wear animal products.

The shirt is the Foxcroft Lauren Essential Blouse. The color is aqua sea and I just love it. I wear it all year round; under sweaters in the winter and on its own in the summer. This was very affordable - I won a gift certificate!

Warm Spring Fashion Accessories

I knew that despite the long sleeved, mid-weight cotton shirt and the leather jacket that I would get cold. It’s important to know yourself and it also never hurts to have something with you, just in case. For a little extra bit of warmth I love nothing more than a shawl.

A SHAWL?!

I can hear you thinking, what are you? An old lady? Well, yes I am but a shawl doesn’t have to be a dowdy thing. Oh no. I have quite a collection at this point and not one of them could be considered old ladyish. In fact the plainest one I have is a rich, burgundy pashmina. Color is everything.

For my date night with the hubby I went a little more dramatic with a custom shawl I had made by Cricket’s Creations just for me. It is soft, sparkly and it has enough weight that it does keep me warm. I also have another one that is lighter in weight and color. What I adore about this shawl is all of the sparkle in the fringe. I just love sparkly things.

All in all I was comfortable, warm and stylish for my night out with my hubby. And he thought I looked good so that counted for a lot if you ask me.

About Selling on ThredUP

I mentioned last week about sending your used clothing in to ThredUP for cash or credit. I have done it several times and I am sending in another bag in the next few days. It’s a very simple process. You request a Clean Out Kit from the company and they mail it out to you.

They are looking for clothing that has been purchased in the last few years and there is a list of preferred companies and designers which you can find on the site. You then just put the clothing, shoes and accessories in the bag and mail it in. The bag is postpaid. As soon as it enters the mail system you receive notification and when it arrives at ThredUP you are told. Then they let you know approximately how long before you know what you will receive. You are also given the option of whether to have the pieces they choose not to accept returned to you - for a mailing fee - or have the clothing donated.

Fashion for Cool Spring Evenings Wrap Up

Erm, no pun intended!

I hope you found the information above useful. I’m still figuring out the ins and outs of these Farm Fashion Fridays posts. If there is anything you would like me to cover just let me know on Facebook or Instagram below. Next week I believe I will be writing about shoes but time will tell. If the weather doesn’t warm up I might be writing about snow boots!
