Over the weekend I wrote about the day trip to Philipsburg and Georgetown Lake that the hubby and I took, which I hope was just the first of many. It was one of those beautiful Montana Fall days. But it was one of those beautiful Montana Fall days – where it’s below freezing in the morning and then in the low 60ies by mid afternoon and then close to freezing again by the time you get home.
What does a girl wear in weather like that?
Don’t worry, I’ve got it figured out after 10 years of living in this beautiful state. Layers! lots of layers. And the appropriate weight sweater for the season.
Dressing for a Day of Many Temperatures
As I dressed that morning I knew I wanted to go beyond just jeans and a sweatshirt. I don’t get off the Farm that often and I wanted to feel pretty. I had gotten some new pieces in from ThredUp – my favorite store for shopping these days and I pulled together an outfit.
It was also my debut for wearing leggings in public. I had purchased a pair at a friend’s LuLaRoe party and really loved the print. I thought they’d be fun under this denim skirt from J. Crew ($4 on clearance!) That is what I love about online thrift shopping – when the skirt arrived it looked brand new. Denim skirts really don’t go out of style, especially a pencil skirt like this one so buying one like this makes perfect sense.
The sweater is from Theory ($15) and is a very soft cotton knit so it’s perfect for these seasons where the temps are up and down. It’s a kimono style and you do have to wear a tank top or something underneath as it can swing open. I adore the design of it. I finished it all off with those leggings from LuLaRoe which I must note are as soft as everyone exclaims. Now I don’t have experience with any other kind of leggings so I cannot say if they are better than, but I do like them.On my feet – my ever present cowboy boots.
I did have my fleece jacket for when it was cool in the morning and later in the evening but you don’t need to see that 10 year old thing.
What is Dressing Up without a Bit of Sparkle?
What you can’t see in the photos is the beautiful jewelry I wore that day including a delightful necklace from Orion Designs – you will recall that Vicki made me a gorgeous boulder opal necklace. I am also wearing a pair of stud earrings, but not just any pair of studs – they are a unique design from another jewelry making friend, Deb Fang. Deb is actually one of the first people I “met” when I opened my jewelry shop on Etsy. Her shop is Crysallis Creations and she makes some gorgeous pieces of jewelry – go ahead and look, I’ll wait.
I have three pairs of her earrings, two pairs of these studs. The ones I wore this day are citrine with sapphire.
As a new jewelry maker who had no idea what she was doing, Deb was friendly from our first contact. She was also very generous with her vast knowledge of gemstones. My experience on Etsy and as a jewelry maker would not have been as much fun without her.
