The hubby and I have embarked on our 35th anniversary trip to see Yellowstone National Park. It is my favorite Park of all the ones that I have visited and as I’ve noted I’ve been very fortunate in my life to have seen quite a few. There is something amazing about our nation’s first National Park though, I can understand how the first explorers to see it referred to it as “Wonderland.” This was our third trip to the Park and our second by way of West Yellowstone. We also went down to celebrate our 25th anniversary and for both of our trips we stayed at the Gray Wolf Inn and Suites. This West Yellowstone Inn is great place to stay for a visit to the Park; the location is excellent for visiting Yellowstone and for taking advantage of all that the local area has to offer.
A Great West Yellowstone Inn
It was super easy to make the reservation online and thanks to the hubby’s recent birthday (cough cough) we were eligible for the old folk’s senior discount. Our room was quite spacious and had two big queen beds. The mattresses had feather toppers and were super comfortable. There was a big TV in the room but we never turned it on! I also found a microwave, small refrigerator, iron, hair dryer and a coffee maker. The Grey Wolf Inn and Suites put a yoga mat in the room too – with a card attached with basic poses. Just in case I wanted to get my yoga on.
I did not. But that is OK.
Breakfast Included
A Continental breakfast is included with the room rate. It is served in the lobby area. The hubby was happy with the options; there were several kinds of cereal, waffles, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit and muffins. I cannot eat in the morning – it’s all part of my being sick. My mornings are all about feeling nauseous so I usually can’t face food until around noonish so I grabbed a banana and orange that I could eat later. This was perfect for me.
The lobby area is quite spacious and there is plenty of room for any guests who came down for breakfast. It is spotless and the staff worked hard to keep it that way. I have to say everyone we interacted with was very friendly and eager to help. Check in was a breeze.
Many Amenities
The Gray Wolf Inn and Suites also has an indoor pool with hot tub but we didn’t manage to get ourselves down to use them even though we packed our suits. I did peak in and it looked like a nice pool. Maybe next time!
As you can see from my photo above it was quite snowy for our visit in West Yellowstone. The hubby was very happy to find that the Gray Wolf Inn and Suites had underground parking at no additional charge. This is delightful for a couple of reasons; the car is warm when we get into it and we don’t have to deal with brushing off snow. It is a big bonus this time of year.
Last time we visited Yellowstone in February it was not this snowy. Just check out the view from our hotel room! There are snowbanks everywhere, but it has been a very snowy year in Superior too. It does make for winter wonderland scenery.
Our plans include a hosted Yellowstone snowcoach tour of the Park (Thank you Yellowstone Vacations!) and a dogsled ride from Yellowstone Dogsled Adventures. Be sure to check back for all of the fun from those trips. I’ll be posting lots of photos on my Instagram so keep an eye out there too!
Don’t worry about the Farm cats – they have a great cat sitter!
