Silk for Summer is Perfect for a Day Out with Friends

We had a birthday party to attend in Missoula over the weekend. After a spate of really miserable weather – it had rained for close to a week which is highly unusual for this time of year – the sun had finally returned and it was back to being warm. I knew the venue was not air conditioned so I figured I’d dress, as I always do – in layers. That way I would be able to stay comfortable as the sun went down. I am a big fan of silk for summer as it is so light and airy. It’s also a great fabric for layering.

The party was being held at Free Cycles which is a very cool organization  it’s mission is:

Our work seeks to create a healthy community through a wide range of strategies. The goal of Free Cycles is to help Missoula, Montana transition to a more sustainable transportation system while simultaneously setting a strong example for other places. Through our programs we hope to help individuals we work with to be
active stewards of the community with an emphasis on social and environmental justice. We work towards this mission through education, empowerment, and engagement.

  • Our education programs strive to give people the knowledge to maintain their bicycle independently, use it safely, and eventually share their skills with others.
  • By increasing the accessibility of human powered transportation, we seek to to directlyempower individuals from all walks of life with the ability to move themselves.
  • Our projects focus on community engagement to facilitate a sense of collective responsibility, a strong sense of place, and human connectivity.

It’s really a wonderful cause and there was a huge room for the party. It was potluck – I brought a dessert pizza and I’ll be showing the recipe later this week – and there was a DJ for dancing. The foods that arrived were delicious and diverse and you would expect from such a party.

Dress is never formal here in Montana but I do love a chance to wear something more than my goat clothes so I took the opportunity to wear a new silk blouse.  I had some help with my fashion shoot – as per usual – Harry the Farm cat needed to be part of the pictures.

Although cat claws and silk are really not a good combination. Harry did not seem to understand this. He took great offense when I tried to keep his claws away from my shirt. I found my lovely 100% silk blouse at ThredUp.com, my favorite online thrift shop. It’s a Diane von Furstenberg and the silk is delightfully soft. It’s a faux wrap around style so I did wear a cotton tank top from The Gap underneath. The silk is very shear which is part of what makes it so nice for summer wear.

I wore my favorite Lee jeans and my Tieks flats. Those flats are so comfortable and they go with everything. The gold color I have is so versatile. As you can see, it was a simple, yet still classic outfit to wear to a birthday party.

I tied my hair in a side pony tail with some hair escaping on the other side and wore my diamond studs. Around my neck was my beautiful necklace from Orion Designs. I liked this photo the hubby took of me so I’m now using it as my avatar. It’s rare that I like photos of myself so it’s nice when I find one I do like.

We had a lovely time at the party and I was very comfortable in my silk blouse and jeans. I do love silk – it is one of my favorite materials for summer and all year round if truth be told.
