I have been adding a few special pieces to my wardrobe here and there. One of a kind type of items like the nuno felted scarf I bought a couple of years ago. I am a big fan of drama and as I am always cold I do have a collection of scarves and shawls to carry with me when I go places so I have a layer to add when that chill sets in. I had known Celeste Meyeres for quite a while through Etsy and had been a fan of her work but had just never bought anything until now. I am happy to note I now own a handknit shawl by Cricket Creations - Celeste’s booming Etsy business.
Handknit Artistry
Celeste is a prolific knitter. She makes scarves, throws and accessories for photographers. She was also the winner in a contest to design a shawl for Stevie Nicks. The one I chose to buy from her is the same design but I did not choose black - ’cause well, I don’t do black. To be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted when I fist contacted her - and that is the beauty of working with Celeste. She will work with you and work with you until you get exactly what you want.
Customer Service at it’s Best
She sent me photos of different yarn combinations and possibilities until between the two of us we came up with the beautiful handknit shawl you see me wearing. She asked me about weight, what colors I liked and about that all important sparkle you see in the fringe. ‘Cause it’s all about the sparkle for me! My biggest problem is keeping the cats away from it when I pull it out of it’s box in the closet. That fringe is very enticing…
You can find a perfect piece for yourself or start your holiday shopping early at Cricket’s Creations. Each item is handmade by Celeste so you know you are getting a special piece of artisan craftsmanship.
It is, despite what you might think from the look of the knitting, very warm. And oh-so-soft! I love the feel of the various yarns used. I believe I read somewhere that there are over 3,000 stitches in the piece.
The fringe is a glorious explosion of color and sparkle. It’s kind of fun to play with….but seriously, the cats do love it so I have to be careful around them.
The center is all soft browns and rich blues. It’s still neutral enough to go with anything but not boring. I’ve already worn it several times and the compliments were flying.
I just love it!
