I have long read about Stitch Fix and the fashion subscription box they send out but I’d never taken advantage of the service – until now. I signed up to receive my first “Fix” and I want to share how the whole experience worked.

Fashion Subscription Box
If you have never heard of Stitch Fix it is a subscription box for clothing and accessories. You can sign up to receive your box on a monthly, quarterly or one time basis. There is a $20 styling fee that is applied if to the cost if you decide to purchase anything from your box.
If you decide to purchase all five things that are sent to you there will be a 25% discount on the overall cost of the items. Should you send everything back the $20 fee is kept by Stitch Fix. Shipping is free both ways.
You can also choose to have Extras included in your Fix above and beyond your regular items. The extras include underwear, socks and camisoles. The purchase of these items does not count towards the discount.
What Was in My Box?
I was sent a pair of jeans, a skirt, a cardigan and two tops. The easiest way to show you is to well, show you:
How Did Things Look?
When I opened the box I really liked the jeans that were included but when I tried them on they were quite tight. I opined that if I could get them in the next size up I would buy them. Fortunately, Stitch Fix will let you exchange items for size if you like something in your box and it doesn’t fit. This made me happy.
I think this is a great service to offer to customers since women’s clothing sizes are so all over the board. As you can see in the photos these jeans are quite form fitting which made them not at all comfortable. I did like the pattern on the top and the crochet detail at the shoulder but I don’t tend to wear sleeveless tops as I am always cold. Both of these items were priced at $58
Next up is the skirt and the dolman sleeved top. I really loved the colors of the skirt but the material just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t like the fit of the grey top – I felt like I was swimming in it despite it being an XS.
The royal blue cardigan caught my eye immediately because this is one of my very favorite colors. It was very soft and I probably would have kept this had it not had the hood. One of my pet peeves is hoods on sweaters. Why? I haven’t the faintest but there it is. My apologies here – I lost the paper with the prices for these items; I seem to recall that the grey top was also $58 and the skirt and cardigan were higher.
My Thoughts?
I was very happy with the exchange option BUT for some reason my receipt shows me paying for size 6 jeans and has no record of an exchange. I’ve sent the jeans back and written to customer service but haven’t heard. I am going to write again tomorrow but am a little disappointed that I have not had a response in three full business days.
Other than the jeans being cotton, none of the other items were natural fabrics despite my saying that I prefer them. I don’t know if this is because they don’t deal with them or what. I will wait and see what happens with my next box in November.
The prices were a bit all over the board for me. I don’t think the $58 for the jeans was bad but the same price for that short sleeved shirt seemed a little out of line. I will need more experience with the service to see how their prices fall.
Sherpa was thrilled with Stitch Fix. He felt their shipping box was created just for him. He got in that box and didn’t get out for hours.
I will continue with Stitch Fix because if for nothing else it’s fun to get stuff in the mail. The clothes that were sent were not awful and it was the first box. You can’t expect perfection on a first try. I expect this is a service that improves with time.
