Welcome back to another Farm Fashion Friday! My thoughts are turning to sweaters and sipping cocoa by the fire as frost has come to the farm. That’s right! We have seen our first temps below freezing here in our little corner of paradise and not just once. Most mornings lately have been downright chilly. Therefore this week’s fashion post is going to be a ThredUp review of a winter Goody Box. This is my second time trying this new service from the online thrift store. I wrote about my first experience with the ThredUp Goody Box – with Sherpa’s help since I can’t do anything without feline assistance – and it turned out to be overall positive.

ThredUp Review – Winter Fashion Goody Box
My first Goody Box from ThredUP was a fun experience. I was overall quite pleased with what I found in the box. To remind you – this service from ThredUP isn’t a typical subscription box. You request one when you want one, it does not automatically arrive. You fill out a simple profile with basic information to give the person filling the box a starting point. There is a $10 fee to have the box sent. If you purchase $75 of the contents you get a $10 credit towards future purchases.
What Was in my Winter Fashion Goody Box?
This time around my box was definitely geared towards winter. I am never going to complain about a box of soft merino and cashmere sweaters with a bonus of a velvet dress I’ll dell you that! Just watch below and you can see all that was in my box:
How Did it Fit/Look?
I tried everything on but the DKNY skirt at the end. I really did not like it and saw little point in trying on something I knew I was not going to keep. You will also not see the purple Talbots sweater. It did not fit.
- Short rant: why can’t clothes just be the same size across all manufacturers? For example: in this box all of the sweaters were size medium. The Talbots sweater was so tiny I couldn’t even get it over my head. The Worth sweater was so big I was swimming in it. The two pairs of pants were both size 6; the cords fit if just a hair large in the waist. The DKNY wool pants were so tight I could barely get them zipped and when I did it felt like breathing was optional. WHY? A size 6 should be a size 6. Rant over.
LL Bean Wool Sweater and Vineyard Vines Cords – I’ll start with noting that I love the cords and they are definitely staying. They are comfortable, have a respectable rise and they look brand new. I’ve never heard of this brand but who cares. (est retail $95/ThredUp $31.99) I’m still vacillating on the sweater. (est. retail $143/ThredUp $33.99) It’s a super soft wool and I love the pockets. I’m just not sure that it makes me look plump.
Pendleton Silk Top – I love the color of this layering piece but it’s just not worth it to me (est retail $179/ThredUp $34.99) I don’t think I’d get enough use out of it to justify spending the money. It’s a glorious, heavy silk knit that’s soft as….well, silk. I just would never wear it alone due to always being cold and if I’m wearing a layer underneath it seems a bit formal for my life.
Patagonia Wool Sweater – Another super soft wool top. This one is also going back. I’m not a big fan of grey and the red stripes don’t do anything for me. This sweater also highlights all of my lumps and bumps which no one wants. (est retail $149/ThredUp $39.99)
W by Worth Wool Sweater – If this were long sleeved I’d probably give it more consideration but with the short sleeves it just won’t work for me. I would just be cold. It’s super soft and slightly big on me but very comfortable and I do like the color. (est retail $321/ThredUp $45.99) The price would probably give me a bit of pause but it’s not like I was truly considering it anyway.
DKNY Wool Pants and Bloomingdales Cashmere Turtleneck – I love, love, love the color of the sweater. It’s cashmere so it’s super soft – that’s a given. It’s such a heavenly layer in the winter as it’s just so warm. (est retail $214/ThredUp $36.99) The slacks are tight as I mentioned in my little rant above. They are wool, unlined – which I thought was odd but the weave is super tight. Obviously I am not keeping the pants – I like to breathe. (est retail $297/ThredUp $54.99)
J.Jill Velvet Dress – aaaahhhh, I do like this dress. It’s so very soft – I mean it’s velvet. Who doesn’t love to pet velvet. It’s my favorite color. It falls below the knees. It looks good with my dress boots. If I were living my old life I’d buy it in a minute. I’ve been back and forth with myself so many times as to whether I’m keeping it or not. My big issue is – how often would I wear it? People just don’t get dressed up here. Fancied up is wearing my dress boots with my jeans. I only have so much money I can spend and I know I’m better off spending it on one of the sweaters….but it’s so pretty, isn’t it? (est retail $99/ThredUp $34.99)
ThredUp Review
If you have been reading the blog for any length of time you know I really like ThredUP. I’ve shared my tips for online thrift shopping if you go direct to the website but if you order a Goody Box it’s rather like getting a thrift shopping experience in a box. It saves so much time – you don’t have to go looking through pages and pages of items.
Yes, there will be misses but there will also be hits. In my last box I ended up purchasing a pair of brown slacks I never would have considered but they fit like a dream and I love them. In this box there is that purple velvet dress that is calling to me so who knows. Sometimes an unexpected item is just what you need.
And if you have a cat they love the ThredUp Goody Box box.
Be sure to check out ThredUp for yourself and remember as the holidays approach they have a wide selection of items that are new with tags that would make great gifts!
