If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram you have learned that the hubby, the cats and I are moving! We have sold the yurt and we are crossing the country (again) and will soon be living in Vermont. There is nothing about moving that enters into anyone’s travel dreams believe me but this was a decision we came to as we realized that living on a small farm, far from everything was probably not the best place for us as we aged. So we took a trip to Vermont, found a house and now I am….
…packing. There is so much more to do but it will get done by the end of the month – fingers crossed. As I pack I find things from the past and it has started me reminiscing about all of the travel the hubby and I have done, including the years in the fifthwheel that led to our living in Montana.
I have absolutely adored living in Montana and I am going to miss it here but I am looking forward to getting to know Vermont. It will be the fourth state I have lived in in my life. Hopefully the last because I HATE TO MOVE. The packing, the unpacking. OY. But that is neither here nor there. This post is about dreaming about where to go on a vacation.
Beach Travel Dreams
Most people dream of going to the beach when they think about where to travel. I am the odd woman out here because I don’t like the beach – sacrilege! Walking on the beach to watch the sunset is fine by me but lying in sun – not my idea of fun. The hubby and I have been very fortunate and have walked the beaches in Hawaii, Florida, the Bahamas, St. Thomas and St. John. Just thinking about the warm and sunny places we have been warms my little heart. See, I’m relaxed already. Virtual travel isn’t so bad, right? Out of any of these I would go back to Hawaii in a heartbeat.
Return to the City of Love?
What if my dreams took me long ago and far away? They would be about a return to Paris. I’ve been there but the hubby has not. It was a trip I took while I was a senior in high school and it was heavenly. I spent time in Paris and in chateau country. It was completely magical and despite it being 40some years ago I still have vivid memories from the trip.
The hubby always said that he was not all that fond of museums, cathedrals and such but he was surprised by how much he enjoyed himself on our trip to Rome and Florence. I do believe he would enjoy the City of Light.
Italy – Visiting Rome and Florence
Italy is another country I would return to in a heartbeat. One trip to that country is never sufficient. Florence was unbelievably beautiful and I could spend a week in the Uffizzi Gallery and still not see it all. And the Duomo? Oh.My.Heavens. I could stand and stare at it all day long.
Rome was a marvel of the present and the past and the food was ah-mazing. We tried to find out of the way restaurants and they did not disappoint. The hubby planned the trip on his own and we didn’t use any tour guides so it was nice and low key. We didn’t have to rush to make appointments or be here or there at a certain time.
He knew I had a passion for the art of Michelangelo and being on our own we went to the Sistine Chapel on three separate days. I could just sit and stare for as long as I wanted without any time pressures. It was heavenly.
Travel Dreams Stateside
Of course there are many places I’ve visited that I’d love to see again. New York is one of my favorite cities and I miss it terribly. When we lived in New Jersey we would go up to the city at least four times a year. Since we moved to Montana I haven’t seen the city in over 12 years.
Of course while we traveled in the fifthwheel we were able to really see this beautiful country of ours including many of our National Parks; Yellowstone, Glacier, Carlsbad Caverns, and more. Their diversity and beauty is unsurpassed. If you have one near you by all means go on a local vacation. I loved every Park we visited. This country has so much to offer and Montana is one of the prettiest places in it.
The Beauty of Travel in Montana
I will miss this beautiful state it is truly an astoundingly beautiful place. I have a traveler’s playground in my backyard. Our home was not that far from two of the most beautiful National Parks in the country. I loved visiting Glacier and Yellowstone is my favorite National Park. Visiting there could be an annual event and it would still seem brand new. Driving the Beartooth Highway was another trip that showcased the beauty of western Montana. I have said repeatedly that neither one of us has seen anywhere more scenically beautiful than western Montana. The photos you see don’t begin to do it justice. If you can visit here, do. You won’t be disappointed.
Now I will be off to new travel adventures on the East coast. I will be exploring Vermont and perhaps other states in New England. Stay tuned. I’m sure I will eventually tell you all about it.
